OASE PTKI can be learning platform: Minister

Tangerang, Banten (ANTARA) – Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas has emphasized that the Olympiad of Religion, Science, and Research of Islamic Religious Higher Education Institutions (OASE PTKI) can become a platform for learning for students.

“I hope this Olympiad can produce a future generation that has knowledge, piety, and integrity,” Qoumas said at the opening of the final round of the 2023 OASE PTKI here on Wednesday.

He expressed the hope that the academic community of Islamic religious universities throughout Indonesia will continue to improve their quality through OASE-like events.

He said he believes that the event can produce great students who can contribute to the progress of the nation.

“The implementation of OASE strengthens the stance that PTKI is not only a place to produce religious graduates, but also a place to produce intellectual youths, scientists, and graduates of non-religious sciences such as STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math),” he added.

South Tangerang Mayor Benyamin Davnie expressed his gratitude to the Religious Affairs Ministry for appointing the city’s Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University (UIN Syarif Hidayatullah) as the host of OASE PTKI.

“Thanks to the minister for appointing South Tangerang city through UIN Syarif Hidayatullah to host this year’s national OASE PTKI,” he said.

According to him, the Olympiad can support South Tangerang city’s identity as an Education City, as determined in the Regional Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMD).

“The event can color the identity of South Tangerang as a new education city,” he said.

The Olympiad is said to be strategic in the development of science and research as well as faith-based scientific studies for Indonesian students.

“I hope that OASE will become a strategic event for fostering students’ creativity and competitiveness to excel in healthy competition and uphold sportsmanship,” Davnie said.
