National birth control efforts are already on track: BKKBN

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Secretary of the National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) Tavip Agus Rayanto reported that efforts focused on national birth control were on track and on target.

“Efforts made by the government regarding population control, especially birth control, are on track,” Rayanto stated at a seminar on the results of calculating the 2022 BKKBN Main Performance Indicators (IKU) in Jakarta, Monday.

According to Rayanto, the indicator of successful birth control is shown by the total birth rate, or Total Fertility Rate (TFR), which has reached 2.14 out of the target of 2.21 based on the 2022 BKKBN key performance indicator (KPI).

He also noted that one of the important aspects in realizing Golden Indonesia 2045 is increasing human resources, wherein population-oriented development puts the population not only as the object of development but also as the subject of development.

“It means that the number of residents needs to be controlled, and as a subject of development, the population’s quality must be improved,” he remarked.

In order to improve the quality of the population, his side continues to control balanced population growth and quality families through efforts to control birth rates and meet the target of a total birth rate of 2.1 in 2024.

“Balanced Growth Population, or PTS, will be realized by reducing the total birth rate, or TFR, to 2.1 children per woman in 2024,” he explained.

Moreover, this quality should to be improved by reducing mortality, directing population mobility, and developing the quality of the population in all dimensions, he remarked.

Based on the results of the 2022 BKKBN KPI calculation, Rayanto affirmed that one of the indicators that still needs improvement is the number of unmet needs for family planning, which in 2022 was at 14.7 points out of the target of eight.

He expressed hope that the KPI results that have been achieved would become the basis and contribution to development planning.

“I hope that the results we have achieved can become a basis and contribute to development planning, both in the short and long term. Hopefully, this can be the start of the population development towards Golden Indonesia 2045,” he remarked.
