ASEAN Summit: Minister Uno to invite delegates to visit Yogyakarta

Yogyakarta (ANTARA) – Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno will invite delegates attending the 43rd ASEAN Summit to make the most of their time in Indonesia by visiting tourist destinations in the Yogyakarta special autonomous province.

“I will invite the delegates that will participate at the ASEAN Summit to extend their stay (in Indonesia) to visit Yogyakarta, where they can enjoy a refreshing fatigue-healing experience,” the minister told the media in Yogyakarta on Tuesday.

Minister Uno said that he is planning to invite the delegates to Yogyakarta because he believes the region is home to several interesting tourist destinations.

He also highlighted the better air quality in the province compared to Jakarta, where the summit will take place.

“Yogyakarta is one of the best tourist destinations, added to the fact that its air condition is in a better state. Currently, (the air quality index of) Jakarta is at 150, while (that of) Yogyakarta is only at 30, a very healthy air condition,” he pointed out.

The minister expressed the belief that Yogyakarta will be the right choice for multinational delegates to unwind without having to spend high sums of money on a single tourism service.

“Yogyakarta will be a memorable place, where they (the delegates) can relax with minimum costs,” he said.

The 43rd summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), which is scheduled to take place from September 5 to 7, 2023, will be the second summit to be held under Indonesia’s ASEAN chairmanship this year.

The 42nd ASEAN Summit was held from May 9–11 in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara province.

Delegates from partner countries of ASEAN will join the leaders of the regional bloc at the 43rd summit.
