Moerdijat made the remarks at a discussion on dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, which was followed online from here on Wednesday.
“(People of) working age are actually the fundamental capital for the nation, but it must be understood that (people of) working age (live) alongside with older adults that must be happy,” she said.
If older adults are free from dementia and Alzheimer’s, it will allow their family members who are of working age to maximize their potential in carrying out their tasks and responsibilities, she explained.
She also asked the youth to make healthy lifestyles a habit in their families since 40 percent of dementia and Alzheimer’s cases can be delayed with the implementation of healthy lifestyles.
“It is the task of us all to disseminate information on how to face the demographic dividend because the youth is our capital to develop the nation,” she remarked.
According to her, the demographic dividend in 2045 is something that Indonesia must be grateful for, when equitable development, strengthening of national resilience, and governance will be among the things that will be advanced.
To this end, the MPR deputy speaker asked all stakeholders to make preparations and anticipatory steps and political policies to create policies on the prevention of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.
“The hope is that all people can comprehensively understand dementia and Alzheimer’s and can invite relevant stakeholders to think about strategic steps for Indonesia’s progress and achievements in the future,” she said.
