James Gunn’s Superman film, Superman: Legacy, is progressing steadily with new additions to its cast following the recent actors’ strike. The DC Studios production has enlisted Skyler Gisondo and Sara Sampaio for pivotal roles, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Gisondo (HBO’s The Righteous Gemstones, Licorice Pizza), will portray Jimmy Olsen, the youthful photographer at The Daily Planet. Gisondo, who previously appeared in Olivia Wilde’s Booksmart, also brings prior superhero experience from the Andrew Garfield-led Amazing Spider-Man films. Sampaio, a Victoria’s Secret model, has been cast as Eve Teschmacher, the assistant and occasional confidante of the cunning antagonist Lex Luthor, played by Nicholas Hoult.
The new additions join the previously announced leads, with David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. Filming is set to begin early next year, aligning with the film’s anticipated release date of July 11, 2025.
Many other studios have adjusted their superhero movie release dates. Marvel Studios recently revealed that Deadpool 3 and Captain America: Brave New World are now slated for July 26, 2024, and February 14, 2025, respectively. Marvel Studios is set to have only one movie hitting theaters next year.
Superman: Legacy was announced in January and will help kick off a new DC slate overseen by Gunn and his DC Studios co-head Peter Safran. It will be a part of Chapter 1: Gods & Monsters, which will also include Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow and The Brave and the Bold.
