“The Transportation Ministry, along with transportation sector stakeholders, is striving to prepare infrastructure and facilities in the sector to anticipate mobility spike and ensure safety, security, and smooth running during the people’s travels,” the ministry’s spokesperson, Adita Irawati, told ANTARA here on Thursday.
According to Irawati, the government has prepared a total of 46,686 buses, 1,738 trains, 1,551 ships, and 444 air planes.
The government has also ensured the preparedness of plenty of infrastructure and facilities supporting the means of mass transportation, including 113 bus terminals, 110 sea ports, 51 airports, and 41 piers with moveable bridges, she remarked.
She noted that the Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Ministry has confirmed the readiness of national roads for the upcoming holidays.
“Currently, 92.2 percent of national roads, including those in Sumatra, Kalimantan, Java, Sulawesi, Nusa Tenggara, Maluku, and Papua regions, have been prepared,” she remarked.
Earlier, the Transportation Ministry’s Transportation Policy Agency released the results of an online survey, projecting that as many as 107.63 million people, or 39.83 percent of Indonesia’s population, will travel during the holidays.
The number signifies an increase of 143.65 percent as compared to that in the previous year during which the figure was recorded at only 44.17 million people.
In the efforts to ensure smooth public mobility during the Christmas and New Year Holidays, the Transportation Ministry continues to maintain intensive coordination and synergy with various institutions and stakeholders.
The PUPR Ministry; National Police (Polri); Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG); National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas); regional governments; and transportation and toll road operators are among the various parties.
